BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (TND) — Three people were injured in an explosion and fire in Connecticut Friday.
Bridgeport Fire Department Chief, Lance Edwards, said crews responded to a structure fire at Tradebe Environmental Services around 2 p.m.
Edwards said the explosion occurred when a delivery person opened up a valve to an oxidizer, triggering an explosion.
He said multiple smaller explosions also occurred.
The three people injured were taken to Bridgeport Hospital.
The fire was brought under control, according to Edwards.
Residents within a 2-mile radius were asked to shelter in place to avoid smoke exposure.
State and regional agencies are monitoring the air quality and run-off into the storm drains.
